The big blog archive ...

I've been writing my blog "Look who's dropped by the studio ..." each and every week posting up my favourite videos from the drumming world! I am pleased you've decided to have a read of some of the older blogs as there might just be something you may have missed, and there's some very funny videos in there as well, so, read on and enjoy my friends ...

Blog 40 - 31/12/2010

So 2010 is almost a thing of the past and as I write this I am thinking of what 2011 is going to bring me. I can guarantee 2011 will provide hours, days and weeks behind the drum kit, which is never a bad thing - any drummer can tell you that! This year I found that there are a lot of people out there who want to learn drums and I have had the pleasure of teaching quite a number of students this year who are all progressing well. I believe that people want to learn the drums as they see it as a fun instrument - how many drummers do you actually see who are not enjoying themselves - and also for people who enjoy a challenge. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all my current drum students for the great times we have shared in 2010. Have a rockin' 2011!!!

Thanks to everyone who voted in my polls featured in my blogs earlier in the year. Your votes showed that Keith Moon was everyones favourite drummer with 24% of the votes followed by John Bonham with 9% of the votes. 82% of you said that you prefered to play acoustic drum kits to electronic kits.

The following videos are my favourites from the past year of blogs.

Starting with my 3 ultimate favourite drummers

Buddy Rich

John Bonham

Keith Moon

Ian Paice is another fantasic drummer - he is probably my 4th favourite.

Joey Jordison is also a phenominal talent!

I also like finding funny drum videos.

This video is both very good but also funny at the same time!

Animal is a legend!

By far the most popular drum video of the year!

Rowan Atkin son funny drum video!

Lee Evans funny drums

The birdman!

Happy New Year!

All the best, and thanks for viewing my drum blog! If you would like contribute some videos in the New Year please e-mail me at chris@cgdrums.co.uk

Thanks once again,
Chris Goring - CGdrums

Week 38 - 11/12/2010

I hope you enjoyed the first in the series of featured drummer blogs! If you haven't seen it check out week 37 for featured drummer Rob Brightons blog featuring Dave Grohl and Neil Peart!

Its back to me this week and due to the recent spell of weather we have just had here in the East Midlands I thought it would be good to feature some videos of a drum kit made of Ice!!!!

The first video is of the setting up and making of the Ice drum kit and the second is the full Ice drum solo performed by Swedish garage rock band Hellacopters drummer Robert Eriksson.

Get to work and create your very own Ice drum kit, if the snow comes back again that is!!!

Keep on Rockin', Chris

Week 37 - 28/11/2010

Hello and welcome to my drum blog here at CGdrums.

Up to now all my blogs have been written by me and as of very recently I have been writing them weekly. It was my intention all along to show everybody out there my favourite drum videos on the web with the hope of receiving lots of your favourite drum videos in return so I can check them out. It is fair to say that I have had quite a few sent to me through facebook and by e-mail and have used some over the previous weeks in my blogs which led me to think 'why don't I start featuring blogs from other drummers out there with their favourite videos?'.

Turning thoughts into action I spoke to a good drummer and friend of mine Robert Brighton and quizzed him on whether or not he would like to get involved with writing some blogs and this was his response.

Over to you Rob...

So when Chris gave me the call to say he wanted me featured on his blogs I was pretty stoked. He asked for me just to talk about drums and that I could involve videos if I wished. Straight away I had videos in mind and roughly knew what I was going to say....that was until he told me I could not have videos which had swearing in or showed animals genitals.

This put me in a tough position as all the videos I wished to show involved monkeys playing drums with their you know what!

In the end I decided to show vids of two incredible drummers. This first vid is of Dave Grohl who is in my mind the best Rock drummer alive today. Not only has he drummed for amazing bands such as Nirvana, Them Crooked Vultures and Queens Of The Stone Age to name a few, but he also drums with power & passion.

This next vid is of a young Neil Peart doing a solo on one of his smaller drum kits. I recommend watching a DVD called 'Anatomy of a drum solo' to see his incredible drum solo with his massive drum kit.

I will be back with more over the coming months and hopefully will be recording a bit of a drum duet with Chris at some point in the near future to put up on here!

Over and out,
Rob Brighton

Week 36 - 13/11/2010

I recently discovered a 21 year old up and coming drummer called Florrie, through the wonderful Rhythm magazine! She seems to making a lot of noise at the moment both on the drum kit and in the music industry. She is primarily a drummer but also can be heard leading her self titled band Florrie. She has also recently become the face of Nini Ricci perfume.

Rhythm magazine described this video of her as 'Florrie Arnold tearing it up on the kit from 2008. Proof that all drummers, no matter how good-looking gurn!' which made me laugh and indeed go onto check out the video!

Heres another video of her jamming which is something I enjoy doing with friends and fellow musicians all the time!

Heres me warming up for a rehearsal and song writing session.

My blogs at the moment will come at random times so keep checking back for the next installment.

Chris Goring

Week35 - 29/10/2010

Hello and welcome back to my drum blog. Over the past month I have been doing loads of work at a youth project in Heanor which is going brilliantly. When it was officially opened me and Nathan Clarke (ex band mate and superb bass player) went to play some music as people were being shown around the building. We don't get together very often so it was good to catch up and just play music. I edited a video of us messing around. I teach on an electric drum kit which is different to my normal set up, but is very enjoyable.

Did anyone hear the John Bonham Story on BBC Radio2...it was presented by Dave Grohl! Anybody who missed out missed a treat! After listening to it I went on to listen to Bonzo's Montreux off the album Coda. Bonzo's Montreux was a Bonham drum solo recorded in 1976 but appeared on Coda released in 1982, after his death in 1980.

I'm sorry but the John Bonham story is no longer on iPlayer to listen back to but a Youtube recording of Bonzo's Montreux is below for your listening pleasures.

I hope my next blog will be soon(ish) so heres to more hectic times in the CGdrums camp.

All the best!
Chris

Week 34 - 04/10/2010

Sorry for the absence of my blog last week. It was inevitable that at some point the weekly blog was going to miss a week due to a very very busy schedule.

Anyway less about that and down to a new video that me and the incredible DJ Flava Dan recorded a few weeks back. This is only a test video and we are hopefully going to get together soon and work on something proper. Sorry about the mix...it is abit drum heavy, but we'll be working on getting the levels better next time!

BEWARE FLASHING IMAGES!

Anyway Welcome Flava Dan...

I'll be back soon with more videos!

Chris

Week 33 - 20/09/2010

Look who dropped by the studio....this week!

To follow on from last weeks blog of the young drummer I have chosen to feature Jacob Armen as his video of him playing a drum solo at the age of 7 has had over 14 million YouTube views!

Jacob Armen is a true child prodigy drummer. Born in 1980, this drummer was playing like a pro at the ripe old age of 18 months. By the age of 6, he was playing with a full jazz ensemble. My video blog this week shows his progression from when he was 7 years old (first video), when he was 10 (second video) and a video of him at 28 (third video). Enjoy the Jacob Armen timeline...

Chris

Week 32 - 13/09/2010

Back in Week 10 I mentioned I went to see the amazing 'Stomp' at the Festival Theatre in Edinburgh. Stomp is described as a "unique combination of theatre, dance, comedy and percussion where eight performers use boots, bins, brooms and everything including the kitchen sink to hammer out an explosively feel-good rhythm!". Stomp comes to The Royal Centre, Nottingham (21st September to 25th September) and is a must see for both rhythm addicts and non-musical spectators to!

Head over to The Royal Centre Wesbite for more details

As John Bonham got a mention last week I've decided to come back to another one of my favourite drummers this week in Buddy Rich. He was the first drummer to solo on a revolving drum kit! Previously in my blog you may have seen Travis Barker and Joey Jordison spinning around on stage whilst playing the drums!!!

Heres another video of Buddy Rich but this time hes alongside Louis Bellson (another top drummer)

...and to finish off heres a video of a young lad enjoying playing the drums! Its what its all about!!!

Last week I also broke my first ever Bass Drum skin, playing with local DJ Flava Dan. Hopefully I will get some videos of us blasting out the beats soon!

Many thanks for watching and be sure to check back on the previous weeks blogs!

Chris

Week 31 - 06/09/2010

I was well impressed when I opened my Rhythm Drum magazine (25th year anniversary edition) this month to find that you got four Rhythm Icon A4 posters featuring, Charlie Watts, Keith Moon, Ringo Starr and John Bonham. They will most likely be added to my drum room of posters!

This week I came accross this video of John Bonhams son Jason Bonham paying tribute to his dad in this rendition of Moby Dick. The solo is combined with old footage of the late great John Bonham playing parts of his solo in the Led Zeppelin classic track! John Bonham is in my top 3 drummers of all time so it was very interesting to see Jason pay this tribute to him!

Heres some footage of when I joined Matt Henshaw on stage for The Small Faces Convention in London a few weeks back!

(If You Think You're) Groovy - Acoustic version...

Matt Henshaw designed my website and has recently designed himself a new website so make sure you check it out and check his latest interviews including a recent encounter with the NME. www.MattHenshaw.com

Currently listening to and loving The Black Keys album 'Brothers'.

All the best,
Chris
